Dr Michelle Noon

Clinical Psychologist & Criminologist

Dr Michelle Noon is a clinical psychologist, educator, researcher, and organisational leader. She is a Board Approved Supervisor. Prior to completing her PhD (Clinical Psychology), she worked in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors in research, policy, and leadership roles with Victoria Police, KPMG, Beyond Blue, and White Ribbon Australia. This work included a focus on gendered violence. 

In addition to providing training, advisory, supervision, and stakeholder engagement services to a range of government, non-government, and not-for-profit organisations, Dr Noon has worked as a trainer and supervisor for the Blue Knot Foundation and as a lecturer at RMIT, including coordinating one of the first family violence subjects in an Australian tertiary setting.

Dr Noon has specialist expertise at the intersection of psychology and criminology. She has developed and delivered training on complex trauma, criminology, policing, crime prevention, community safety, forensic intervention, forensic formulation, assessment, psychology, gendered violence, family violence, diversity, management, and mental health to more than 1,000 audiences. She is frequently engaged by the media to provide expert commentary.

Dr Noon is a frequent advisor and expert witness across Australian legal jurisdictions, including the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, criminal courts, and tribunals such as the ART, particularly in relation to clinical presentations and risk. She also serves in a range of ministerial and statutory appointments, including the Suitability Panel, the Forensic Leave Panel, the Mental Health Tribunal, an Intermediary for criminal matters in Victoria, and a ministerial suitability advisor in the ACT. She is currently a member of the Australian Government’s expert advisory panel for the Leaving Violence Payment. She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and occupies roles on not-for-profit boards.

Dr Noon has previously provided direct clinical services in community, prison, and urban, rural, and remote settings, with a focus on cognitive behavioural therapies, violence intervention, and trauma-informed practice. She is trained in a range of evidence-based approaches, including trauma-informed practice, cognitive behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, schema therapy, attachment-based approaches, neurocognitive approaches, positive psychology, the Risk-Need-Responsivity model and offending behaviour programs, and narrative therapy. She is an accredited EMDR therapist and also provides neurodiversity assessments. Dr Noon frequently provides supervision to psychologists navigating the interface between psychology and legal systems.

Dr Noon is highly experienced in psychological assessment, case formulation, and working with complex clients across organisational, forensic, and community settings, as well as with clients across the lifespan. She particularly enjoys working with children and young people in difficult situations.

Dr Noon has been awarded:

  • A PhD (Clinical Psychology) from Swinburne University
  • From the University of Melbourne: A Bachelor of Arts with majors in history and criminology, an Honours in criminology, a Bachelor of Science majoring in psychology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology.
